Chiropractic Care and the Immune System
Your nervous system is a critical part to your immune system. The nervous system is what controls and communicates with your body, by sending and receiving messages, and controlling your thoughts and movements.
Your spinal cord is a key connection to your nervous system. Chiropractic care benefits your immune system with treatment that keeps your spine and nervous system on the right track. Chiropractors are also able to provide manual manipulation of the spine and individual vertebrae, as well as help improve back pain, neck pain, car accident injuries, headaches and migraines.
Abnormal changes in the body can lead to a poor immune system. Your immune system is what helps you fight off infections, cancer, the flu, and other common illnesses. Antibiotics have been the solution for most of the illness that can take a toll on the immune system; however they’re not always the best solution for every case.
There are many ways you can strengthen your immune system, and some of them work better than others. A healthy diet can always improve your overall health, along with daily exercise. Vitamin D and C, and sleep help maintain the immune system substantially. Vitamin C and D are important to help you fight off diseases. Chiropractic treatment is also known to be beneficial for your immune system and overall health.
Chiropractic adjustments relieve stress from the nerve system, and many chiropractors recommend regular chiropractic care for everyone because of its benefits. Nowadays, a lot of insurances are starting to cover chiropractic care, so it isn’t an out of pocket expense.
Your spine has spinal lesions that are associated with the spine activity. If your spinal lesions are misaligned, your immune system’s regulatory cells that are released into the blood circulation are altered. White blood cells, the cells that destroy the bad cells, have been shown to be enhanced through chiropractic care. When your spine isn’t aligned, the stress response of the nervous system sends a reaction to your brain, which can cause insulin resistance. With insulin resistance, you are more susceptible to diabetes, heart disease, obesity, depression and other illnesses.
Chiropractic care has many benefits. It can be one of the most promising benefits for the immune system. Many people see chiropractors to keep their immune system in balance and to sustain a healthy and rewarding lifestyle. Your chiropractor will be able to create a balanced chiropractic treatment plan specifically for you and what you’re looking to get out of the care.

Valentine’s Day is a holiday that fills our grocery stores with isles upon isles of chocolate boxes, conversation hearts and pink lollipops and while the weeks leading up to the romantic holiday could tempt even those with iron will power, there are other healthy options. For those hoping to give a gift more thoughtful and heart healthy than anything the red and pink balloon and stuffed animal lined isles have to offer, you have come to right place. If you are having trouble thinking outside of the chocolate box, fear not, we have done all the thinking for you.
1. Dark chocolate fondue for two: Valentine’s Day is usually synonymous with chocolate (especially for most women) but delicious chocolate doesn’t need to be highly processed and full of sugary junk. Try finding your favorite dark chocolate and melting it into a fondue. You can use fresh fruits for dipping and have a romantic evening with an antioxidant loaded culinary experience. Light some candles, pair it with some red wine or pick out your favorite movie; the possibilities are endless.
2: Couple’s yoga or cardio: Workout dates can be just as invigorating as the most romantic and expensive dinner plans. Many gyms offer couple’s cardio and yoga classes around Valentine’s Day for very reasonable prices and make for great gifts. Yoga in particular can help bring you and your significant other closer together by helping relieve the stress of the week and uniting the mind and body.
3. Thoughtful cardio playlist: In the old school style of mixed tapes on Valentine’s Day, cardio playlists can be a great gift for the active individual in your life. Putting some thought into the music that they may enjoy while pumping some iron or running cardio around the neighborhood park will show the one you care about that you also are mindful or their tastes and put a lot of effort into creating a personalized gift for them to enjoy while they are trying to be healthy.
With the holiday so quickly approaching, it is time to consider how you will spend that special day with that special someone. If you didn’t see something that stood out today, be sure to check back next week for three more healthy ideas to help make your holiday memorable.

Running has been an aerobic activity that has proven its value for centuries – long before the days of Bowflex or total body gyms. The convenience and anytime availability of this exercise is matched in greatness by its many benefits.
Some of the biggest benefits of running include:
Keep your bones strong: By keeping our bones active and off the couch, we are keeping them strong and able. Keeping our bones strong is especially important in the prevention of bone conditions like osteoporosis.
Keep your heart active: Training and running for as little as thirty minutes a day can improve blood flow to your heart and strengthen the overall condition of your cardiovascular system.
Calorie cruncher: Running is said to be one of the highest calorie burning aerobic exercises!
Stress buster: Many avid runners claim that a long run after a tough day at work or a long day at school is just what they need to clear their mind, loosen up and feel empowered.
Economically affordable: The great thing about running is that you don’t need fancy gym equipment or even a membership to your local fitness club. Your legs are part of your body and require zero down payments and no monthly bills.
These are only five of the dozens of reasons to begin or continue running. All you need is a pair of quality running shoes and a killer playlist and then you’re ready to rock and roll. Get started on your own adventure and be sure to come in and let us know how it feels to call yourself a runner.

So I ran in the Rock N Roll Half Marathon on the weekend and I had a goal in mind. I really wanted to finish in under 2 hours. I ran my first half marathon earlier this year and finished in 2:04. This time, I really wanted to break that time.
Well, I didn’t. I finished in 2:15. True, it is an accomplishment to complete it, and many people would be happy with that time. This was not about anyone else though, it was about me. So now what??
First, I had to realize that I hadn’t trained properly this time. I completed Tough Mudder 2 weeks ago and the longest distance I had run before that was 8 miles, one week before Tough Mudder. I needed to train for speed if I wanted to get a personal best time!
Second, I tried to do too many things at once. I was also doing our 10 Day Detox program and was in the middle of fruits, veggies and shakes only days when I ran. Although eating that way is great for a little exercise, I didn’t have enough gas in the tank to set a personal best on a half marathon. I was on track to finish in 2 hours until the 9 mile mark….then….I ….slowed….way…down.
Lesson #1: Training makes all the difference! You can do ANYTHING if you train properly!
Lesson #2: Don’t try to OVER DO it! I really like to push myself to realize my limits…I found them!
Now what? Set a new goal, let some time pass and register for the next half…early next year! Who is with me??

As many of you know, I completed my second Tough Mudder course last weekend. Many of you thought I was crazy, and at some points I thought so too! Living fully to me means pushing myself beyond what I believe I am capable of doing- physically, mentally and emotionally.
This course is designed to NOT be a race, but a course that you complete with your team for the purposes of team building and support, encouragement and FUN!
The first big lesson I received from this year’s course is that the TEAM makes all the difference. Because of a few miscommunications and transportation challenges, the team I ran with was a team of 2! Me and my teammate- fantastic acupuncturist Ann Marie Deas- recruited some help along the way to get over the big walls but we both really missed the team support we had last year. 12 of us did it together last year and our experience was entirely different.
Who is on your team in your LIFE that supports and encourages you to go the extra mile or take the step you don’t think you can?
Secondly, I learned AGAIN, that fear is only in your mind!! I completed 2 obstacles that I was VERY afraid to attempt. The Boa Constrictor-2 long narrow tubes 20 feet long, filled with water, mud and people to crawl through. The Electric Eel, crawling through a 20 foot long platform filled with 6 inches of water while electrically charged wires hang down over your back. YIKES! I was SCARED but did it anyway.
What are you afraid of?? I encourage you to feel it and do it anyway. Maybe it’s starting a new project, letting an unhealthy relationship go, making a new friend, trying a new activity?? DO IT! It is so much better to look back and say “I can’t believe I did that” than say ” I wish I would have done that”.

Patty Hayos has been seeking chiropractic care for a good portion of her life; her father-in-law is a chiropractor who helped her realize the difference quality care could make in every aspect of her life. When she was in need of a quality practice, she was referred to Rozenhart Family Chiropractic for their availability and high level of attention to client care.
Hayos is a business owner, and like so many other entrepreneurs, she feels the weight of running a company. Since she began making regular visits to our practice in 2010, she has seen her migraine headaches nearly disappear and with our periodic stress tests, her stress level is under control. Being a business owner and managing her company, Signature Kitchen & Bath, can add extra worry into anyone’s life, but with the help of our chiropractic and total body care, Patty has been able to keep her life in her control.
A few months ago, Patty was in a car accident and was left in pretty bad shape. Her recovery was not overnight, but with the help of our practice, we were able to help her get back to a really great place and she now feels even better than before the accident.
Patty’s life has been changed for the better since seeking chiropractic care. She feels great and her body thanks her for taking such good care. Her frequent headaches are gone, she is overall healthier and happier, and she feels much more consistent in her work and personal life. Plus, as a business owner, Patty no longer goes into panic mode regularly. Patty Hayos credits her chiropractic care with resetting her nervous system and creating a whole new outlook on life. Some people doubt the power of quality chiropractic care but Patty’s story is just one of many positive and life changing experiences brought on by visiting a high quality practice.

Everywhere we turn there is a new product claiming to sooth and cleanse our skin until we feel radiantly beautiful. Americans (and more specifically American women) spend millions of dollars on products that promise to fix blemishes, moisturize dry skin and correct our problem areas, but what big companies don’t tell you is that your own kitchen houses ingredients that can rejuvenate your skin – no matter what kind you have. Over the next week, we will be highlighting some of our favorite recipes for homemade skincare that won’t break the bank. After all, our skin and hair’s health depends on how we take care of it.
Did you know that the skin care products we purchase include ingredients that we have at our fingertips every day? Using all natural and raw ingredients is a way to keep our bodies clean both inside and out. Every woman and man’s skin is different; it reacts like an individual and should be treated like an individual. Let’s start with how our kitchen can serve as a dermatological laboratory for any and all skin types.
Human skin is a sensitive and beautiful thing that deserves to be taken care of. The following recipes will leave your face feeling silky and glowing no matter what type of skin you have.
This face mask is suitable for all skin types and is super simple to prepare. It will cleanse and rejuvenate your skin. In only three minutes, you can make a cleansing oatmeal mask with just three ingredients that are commonly found in kitchens.
All you need is:
- 1 Tbsp oatmeal, finely ground
- 1 Tbsp live, organic yogurt
- A few drops of honey
In a small bowl, combine the yogurt and the oatmeal. Warm a few drops of honey with a hot spoon and stir into the mixture. Using your fingers or a flat fanned makeup brush, apply the mask to the entire face and let sit for at least ten minutes before rinsing with warm water. It is also very relaxing to follow up any facial treatment with a steaming washcloth over the face for a few minutes; this will allow the pores to stay open and moisturized.
Did you know that exfoliating the face at least 1 time a week can keep your skin looking healthy and youthful? Every day we have skin cells that die and it is important to remove them from our face before they build up and cause blemishes. Exfoliating the skin will scrape away the dead skin cells and wash away free radicals while clearing up clogged pores. Micro-dermabrasion treatments at a spa can cost hundreds of dollars while at-home exfoliates cost a fraction of a dollar.
Sugar scrubs are a great alternative to micro-dermabrasion treatments and are easy to make. Sugar is found in almost every kitchen and is easier on skin than salt. This recipe will give your skin a youthful glow and will keep the appearance fresh and smooth.
All you need is:
- 4 Tbsp sugar
- 3 Tbsp warm water
- A few drops of lemon juice
- Essential Oil for scent (optional)
Stir all ingredients together until it becomes a paste like texture. Use a cleansing brush or pad if you have one to apply the paste to the face in circular motions. The sugar will lightly scrub slough all of the dead particles away. Scrub for 1-2 minutes before rinsing your skin with warm water and a steam towel treatment.
Be sure to let us know how these recipes work for you, and remember to check back tomorrow for our homemade tips and tricks for battling acne-prone and oily skin!
